Marcel Desailly has called on AC Milan to show patience with manager Vincenzo Montella and blamed the club’s hierarchy for their early-season struggles. Montella is under pressure at the San Siro following a poor start to the campaign which has left them in seventh place in Serie A after 12 games played. It follows a big-spending transfer window which saw Milan splash out more than £170million on 11 new signings after being backed by their new Chinese owners.
But former Milan defender Desailly believes the club’s owners must take some of the blame for the disappointing start and insists it has now become a ‘transition season’. ‘I remember when they lost against Roma, everyone was saying “let’s sack him”,’ Desailly told Omnisport via FourFourTwo. ‘This is where the guys who are in charge are very clever because they know it is also their fault. ‘Whatever manager you bring into the system, according to the players you bought… Some players you bought because if you don’t buy them now, in the future when they get to another club, you cannot have them back because the budget will be too high.
Desailly believes that despite pre-season expectations, Milan is still three or four players away from mounting a serious Serie A title challenge. ‘They were just hoping that maybe with the confidence they were going to succeed and get to a certain level. It didn’t happen, so it’s just a matter of patience and seeing for next season to top up with three or maybe four top, experienced players.’
Desailly is right as Milan fans we need to look forward and believe in Montella to bring Milan up to the table right now we need to focus on the game vs Napoli. KEEP CALM AND FORZA MILAN!
