AC Milan has been monitoring Besiktas playmaker Oguzan Ozayakup, and are finally preparing a bid for the Turkish midfielder. He is also wanted by Everton, but Milan lead the way in the pursuit of his signature.
Calciomercato reported that Milan has been hesitant on firming up their interest in the 25-year-old with an offer: “According to our sources, AC Milan have not changed their plans and are yet to make an offer for the 25-year-old. Ozyakup could leave Besiktas in the January transfer window as his contract expires at the end of the season.”
Besiktas may be willing to get rid of him during January because if they wait until the summer he will leave on a free unless he signs a new contract. Arsenal and Everton are both offering between $18 million, per Turkish source Fotospor, and $14 million, per Turkish source Fotomac. This price range gives Milan a fairly good opportunity to buy him, and he looks like a steal compared to when we paid $31 million for Bertolacci. If Ozyakup can be signed for $15-20 million, it would be baffling for Milan not to bring the young Turkish player to the San Siro.
Milan has not been able to score goals recently, and our midfield has lacked the creative ability and has not created many chances going forward. Predictability has been one of Milan’s downfalls as of late, but the addition of a creative midfielder would provide a good balance in the middle, and it would prove to be a good move for the Rossoneri. Constantly buying players to fill our holes is not the best solution, but Milan is still missing one of two key players. Having Ozyakup in the lineup would also create more depth, as one of the starters would be forced to the bench. A player like Bonaventura or Calhanolgu would then be deployed on the wing because we will have someone similar to them in midfield. There isn’t really anything that is negative about this possible deal, as he is cheap, a good player, and if it does not work out, we can sell him for about the same price as we bought him for. If Milan is given the chance to sign him, they would be foolish not to snatch up the opportunity.
Ozyakup boasts the vision and technique to be a major asset for a team playing a possession-based game. He provides creativity, flair, and a different outlook going forward. Milan would be a perfect fit for this skillful and promising player, and he may be the missing piece of the puzzle that we need to succeed. Hopefully, Fassone and Mirabelli keep their eyes on this promising youngster, and they see the promise written all over the possibility. The transfer window is just days away, so we will have to wait and see how the events unfold.
