Gianluigi Donnarumma says Milan ‘showed great character’ in the 4-3 win over Sassuolo on Sunday evening.
Milan scored first through Bonaventura (9′) but in the 2nd half they found themselves in a 1-3 disadvnatage against Sassuolo at San Siro after goals from Politano (11′), Acerbi (54′) and Pellegrini (56′).
However, the boys of Vincenzo Montella didn’t break and with a lot of desire and a little bit of luck, managed to overturn the match and win 4-3 thanks to goals from Bacca (69′, pk), Locatelli (73′) and Paletta (77′).
Donnarumma – despite conceding three goals last night after 3 consecutive clean sheets – was once again instrumental and made a huge save to deny Sassuolo of the 4-4.
“The credit belongs to everyone, we did well to turn the match around. We showed great character,” Gigio, 17, told Milan TV afrer the final whistle was blown by referee Marco Guida. “Young players? The academy is going great things. I want to congratulate Locatelli who is a friend of mine.
“The comeback? Conceding two goals within 2 minutes was hard but then after the penalty we all together managed to come back. I get on well with everyone, even those who are on the bench give us a great charge. We’re a big united group. It was a great comeback; together with the derby, I think this is my favourite win. 2 great matches. Europe? We’re thinking game by game, then we’ll see.
“The mentality? We’re working so much in training and we must always give our best. The manager as well gives us a lot of confidence. The national team (he was called-up again by Italy)? It’s a pride to wear the Azzurri shirt, I go there to train as usual. We hope to do well in the 2 games.”
Donnarumma will sign a contract renewal with the Rossoneri once he turns 18 in February as before he reaches this age he’s unable to sign a contract with Milan for a longer period than three years.
